Zoë MacDonell

CV

Zoë MacDonell’s practice spans across various mediums of drawing, painting and textiles. She was born in England, and lived in Africa and America before settling in Australia in 1993. She received a Bachelor of Applied Arts (hons) from the College of Fine Arts University of New South Wales and has taught at COFA UNSW and at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Zoë has exhibited her work across Australia and internationally. She has been the recipient of numerous artist in residency scholarships and programs including in Australia at Artspace Contemporary Art Centre; Hill End through the Bathurst Regional Art gallery; Bundanon, Arthur Boyd’s property; aboard the Marina Svetaeva in Antarctica; and the Royal Overseas Leagues in London and Scotland. Zoë has received numerous grants, including from the Australia Council for Arts; Arts NSW and the National Association for the Visual Arts. Zoë’s portrait was painted by Angus McDonald and included in the 2009 Archibald at the Art Gallery of NSW. Recent exhibitions include the Fleurieu Art Prize (2013) curated by Nigel Hirst, the Director of the Saatchi Gallery in London; Signal 8 at Cat St Gallery in Hong Kong and a solo exhibition at Art Equity, Sydney.
